Moving On Swiftly
Ramone K Anderson
Bolanle Contemporary is pleased to present Moving On Swiftly, a solo exhibition of new works by Jamaican British artist Ramone K Anderson at the third edition of Minor Attractions at the Mandrake Hotel London.
Moving on Swiftly explores identity through memory and interiority while deconstructing the religious experience of Pentecostal Christianity. Anderson reflects on how belief systems have shaped his relationships, sense of self, and ways of remembering. Through painting, he translates fragments of the past into images that remain unsettled and unresolved.

Drawing on a personal archive of photographs taken over the past twelve years, Anderson revisits images of friends and acquaintances who, though now distant or estranged, were formative in his life. These figures re emerge blurred layered and in flux, caught between presence and disappearance. Memory here is dissociative, vivid yet estranged, intimate yet remote.
Rather than allegory, Andersons figures reflect lived memory, the psychic weight of being watched, judged, misread or forgotten. Foreground and background collapse, refusing clarity and leaving an atmosphere of unease.
This withholding resonates with Fred Motens notion of refusal, not silence but the decision to remain outside full legibility. Andersons paintings hold something back, protecting memory and interiority as spaces that cannot be fully consumed. His practice also converses with Aria Deans Notes on Blacceleration, situating Blackness not outside capital but as both its engine and potential undoing. Moving On Swiftly moves within this tension, navigating the violence of visibility while opening a space to reconstruct identity and communal histories otherwise.
